#2939, "Alarming issue - Software Bug"

Recently upgraded to 8.5.2.1 - Discovered an issue with partially received gift cards that are being doubled and allowing a shopper to use the card for more than was issued.

Gift Card purchased for 30.00
Shopper Spends 15.50
New Gift Card balance is 45.50
(Even prints on the receipt this way)

Partner says this is a "known issue" and will be fixed in the new release 8.5.3 but not available yet.

Figured this should be reported to users as a heads up.

Just finished cleaning up gift cards with activity in the last 4 days and we have lost $311.15 by customers being allowed to overspend. It was actually a customer that brought this to our attention based on the printed receipt.

I can't be the only one with this problem???

Can you get more info on this "known issue"? We are just setting up magnetic swipe gift cards after years of paper ones and all of my test ones in 8.5.2 seem to show the right balances on the receipt.

I am not able to get more info other than the problems I am experiencing. Our CP dealer just said it was a known issue. Since I don't have partner access to CP I can not obtain additional information. I can elaborate on my environment but unfortunately we have not been able to pinpoint any more specifics on the cause.

This happens when a customer uses PARTIAL of a gift card. The balance of the card increases by the original amount.

Do you know if your are truly using the "Gift Card" setup in CP or are your Gift Cards truly setup as Store Credits?

I have not heard of this being reported by any of my sites but we typically only use the Gift Cards as Store Credits.

We are using the gift card setup. Always have been using it this way.

Curious - why would you use it as a Store Credit?

When you have Gift Cards setup as Store Credits, you have the ability to "recharge" or add value to a card. You cannot do that with the traditional Gift Cards in CP.

You may ask your reseller to see if they can help you setup and test using the Store credits to see if it resolves your issue. With some scripting and work they should be able to transfer the existing Gift Cards over to Store Credits.

I am finding nothing on the NCR KB about this, and have not had any merchants on 8.5.2.1 report it, but it is good to know thanks. Will keep an eye out for it.
